- General Information The town is and has been a farming village / town since the 16th Century. For 5 centuries agriculture was limited as Roldan is within very dry countryside with an average rainfall of 148 mm or 6”. The arrival of the Taco-segura water canal changed agriculture and there is now extensive irrigation and Roldan rapidly grew into a town of 7000 inhabitants.
There is 50,000 hectares of irrigation in The Campo de Cartagena area which Roldan is part of. The irrigated crops include citrus, artichokes, melons, salad vegetables, broccoli, cauliflowers, and potatoes.
The town has wide range of business and shops including garages, hardware stores, furniture, stores, appliance stores, butchers, bakers, hairdressers, clothing stores, banks, and supermarkets.
